In a decisive final group match of the U17 Asian Cup held on May 13, Beijing time, the Chinese U17 men’s football team defeated Qatar 2-0, securing their first victory of the tournament and advancing as group runners-up. This result also ensured the team’s qualification for the U17 World Cup, marking the first time in 21 years that a Chinese men’s national youth team has reached a global competition.

According to the latest 2025 edition of the football player technical grade management regulations issued by the Chinese Football Association, teams that reach the top eight in the U17 Asian Cup are entitled to have at least five players awarded the title of “Master of Sports.” This prestigious designation provides athletes with the opportunity to apply for direct university admission without taking the national college entrance exam, along with other benefits in career development and social recognition.

However, the regulations stipulate that players must accumulate at least 40% of the total playing time during the tournament to be eligible for the title. Therefore, only the core starters of the current squad are likely to receive this honor.
With this incentive in place, the U17 team is expected to push even harder in the knockout stages. In the quarterfinals, they will face the winner of Group A, likely host nation Saudi Arabia, with the match scheduled to kick off at 1:00 AM Beijing time on May 16.
