Former Russia national team player Alexander Mostovoy shared his thoughts on the current Russian Premier League title race, stating that Zenit could clinch the championship if Dynamo Moscow manages to take points off Krasnodar in their upcoming match.
Speaking to Match TV, Mostovoy analyzed the importance of Monday’s fixture between Dynamo and Krasnodar. He pointed out that the result could have a direct impact on the title battle, with Zenit potentially benefiting even without playing.
“This is a match where a lot can be decided. Remarkably, one team that isn’t even playing today could become champion — I mean Zenit. If Dynamo take points off Krasnodar, I think Zenit will wrap up the league in their final game,” Mostovoy said.
He added that Dynamo should be highly motivated and aggressive after their recent setbacks against Krasnodar, including a penalty shootout loss in the Russian Cup final of the RPL path. “If I were in that team, I would be tearing them apart to win. Let’s see if they can do it, because Krasnodar understands the stakes too.”
Mostovoy also commented on Krasnodar’s squad composition, noting that while the club often touts its academy products, their only championship in 15 years came with a roster heavily reliant on foreign players. “Passports don’t play — people do. It doesn’t matter where you came from; if you’re stronger, you should win,” he emphasized.
Krasnodar currently sits second in the RPL standings with 63 points, two behind league leaders Zenit but with a game in hand. Dynamo, with 39 points, occupy eighth place. The outcome of Monday’s clash could reshape the title race in favor of Zenit.
