Referee Anderson Daronco, who officiated the Corinthians 3–2 win over São Paulo in the Brasileirão, made an unusual announcement to fans at the Neo Química Arena after a VAR review.
During the match, Daronco reviewed Bobadilla’s celebration following Luciano’s equalizer. The goal brought the score level in Itaquera after Raniele had opened the scoring early in the first half. The São Paulo midfielder was alleged to have made an obscene gesture while running after his teammate’s goal, prompting the VAR to call Daronco to the monitor.
After examining the footage, the referee explained what he saw — and even mimicked Bobadilla’s movement.
“Upon review, I see the São Paulo player celebrating the goal. He does not touch his genitalia. He is celebrating with a show of spirit, okay? No card,” said Daronco.
The match ended with Corinthians winning 3–2. Matheuzinho and Bidon scored for the home side, while an own goal by the same lateral gave São Paulo their consolation.
Despite the controversy, no punishment was issued, and the referee confirmed the decision on the field stood.
