Dejan Bodiroga reflected on FC Barcelona’s long-awaited EuroLeague breakthrough in 2003, sharing how the club’s repeated Final Four appearances added immense pressure before finally capturing the title.
In an interview from Final Four Stories by Stoiximan, Bodiroga recalled Barcelona’s history of reaching multiple Final Fours without a championship. “Barcelona went to many Final Fours,” he said. “They got there but never won.”
After claiming the EuroLeague crown with Panathinaikos in 2002, Bodiroga saw his move to Barcelona as a fresh challenge and renewed motivation. “For them to host the 2003 Final Four in Barcelona after so many near misses—that was enormous pressure. But for me, it became an extra drive, a new goal.”
Barcelona defeated CSKA Moscow in the semifinals and then beat Benetton Treviso in the final, where Bodiroga scored 20 points and was named Final Four MVP. “I think the key was that I compete with myself and always try to win again,” he explained.
That victory completed a historic triple-crown season for Barcelona, a feat Bodiroga still ranks among the greatest achievements of his career.
